Bioware wants to Overhaul Anthem?

Social media is going apeshit over the news of Bioware's most recent announcement, and people are speculating that Anthem is going to be re-invented from the ground up.

Bioware has hinted that they are planning to overhaul the core Anthem experience in their latest announcement, following in the footsteps of games like Warframe and No man's Sky.

The announcement came to us from the official Bioware blog, by way of Bioware General Manager Casey Hudson.

Over the last year, the team has worked hard to improve stability, performance and general quality of life while delivering three seasons of new content and features. We have also heard your feedback that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression and a more fulfilling end game. So we recognize that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion.

Hudson then goes on to vaguely describe the changes we can expect from Anthem in the future by saying this:

Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.

Bioware plans to continue the Cataclysm event into anthem's anniversary. No word on what comes after that, or even a definite timetable on when players can expect the improvements they were asking for.

Anthem had one of the most legendarily disappointing launches of the past decade, rivaled only by game publisher EA's other big multiplayer game, Battlefront II. The game was initially announced in 2012, and was called Beyond, right up to the last minute, just before the game was teased again in 2017. The game was missing most of the features that Bioware said the game would have were missing when it launched, and had one of the biggest micro transaction controversies of 2019.

If this announcement has any truth to it, this could mean that the game is looking at a major comeback.
