Dead Trigger Review (Android)

When Android finally started getting Unity3D ports of iOS games, it marked the first time since android's inception in 2010 that these games could be taken seriously as a core gaming platform, and Dead Trigger is a sign of what early Android development has gotten right.

Gameplay:

This game does everything right in terms of overall accessibility. It introduces the player to the game mechanics from the very beginning, it introduces the player to the fundamentals of the gameplay using the first stage as a tutorial, and it only lasts about a minute.

It introduces the player to the option to buy more gold, in order to buy useful items, all without shoving micro transactions down the player's throat, or encouraging the type of Pay-To-Win bullshit you see in Clash of Clans, Game of War, and Mobile Strike, where paying real money for in-game bullshit is the only way to have fun.

Graphics:

It looks like Doom 3 on medium settings, and looks like Counter-Strike: Source on Low settings. High graphic detail settings, like you would see on the Nvidia Tegra 3 just look like Medium settings running in the Unreal 4 engine, so medium is pretty much on par with what you would expect High to look like. For a game running on a phone, this actually looks very good.

Controls:

Anyone who has ever had doubts about the effectiveness of a touch screen for a first-person shooter needs to play this game. Everything from the traction of the touch screen to the position of the controls is perfect. There isn't much more to be said. You do have the option to use a Gamepad if you want, and it works okay, but much like comparing a keyboard and mouse, it pales in comparison to the precision you get from a decent touch screen.

Verdict:

I feel that Dead Drigger is the FPS game by which all other FPS games on android need to be striving to be. It's ridiculously fun, addicting, and displays how micro-transaction can be useful without being shit.
