It's the current year, which means its almost time for SNK to honor the age old tradition of re-releasing one of its an old fighting games from nearly 20 years ago.
SNK's King of Fighters '97 brought together characters from dozens of SNK arcade titles to compete for the title of King of Fighters.
With even more cameos and crossovers, KOF '97 was the point where the franchised reached a critical point in its success. The franchise also managed to wrap up its main story following the Orochi; a snake demon that made people go into a massive fit of rage and start no-clipping through opponents.
It wasn't until KOF '98 that the plot of the franchise moved in a different direction. '98 gave the franchise its first non-canon installment with no story-line --a trend that would later be known as a "Dream Match"-- where every 4th KOF game was considered non-cannon. From there, KOF '99 would pick up an entirely different story line following three new protagonists, officially marking KOF '97 as the end of the Orochi saga.
This game is currently available on the PS4, VITA, and PC through STEAM.
