Maximilian Dood's Rock Howard Combos are Just Sick as Hell

Literally hours after fan favorite Rock Howard became a playable DLC character in King of Fighters XIV, famous Killer Instinct and Street Fighter commentator Maximilian Dood has already seemingly mastered the character.

In a video uploaded on the 6th of March, Max Dood can be seen using the brand new character, chaining normals into supers, and canceling into even more supers, sometimes up to 26 hits, and doing nearly 60% damage to an AI opponent.

SNK has been taking steps to make the franchise more accessible to new players, by introducing a "special" button, allowing a single button to substitute SNK's traditionally difficult to master fighting mechanics. The trade off is that the easy button doesn't do nearly as much damage as doing combos and supers the traditional way, so being able to master this brand new character in a few hours is no small feat.

Rock Howard got his start in a much older, critically acclaimed SNK title called Garou: Mark of the wolves. Rock Howard is the son of the main villain of the Fatal Fury franchise of games, Geese Howard.

According to the SNK wiki, KOF 14 was never intended to have Rock Howard as a playable character, in respect to the old SNK Playmore team that originally developed the concept. However, most of the original SNK team returned to the team for the recent game, so when Rock Howard became the most requested character in the history of the franchise, It only made sense to add him as the game's final DLC character.

KOF14's popularity is enigmatic, in that it wasn't taking the world by storm when it was released, yet was a wave of disappointment in the fighting game community over the unnecessary changes, and lack of an actual Story mode in Street Fighter V seems to be steadily growing KOF's user base. The 14th installment of KOF didn't go unnoticed by core fighting game enthusiasts, who were looking for a game that didn't abandon entire move sets and play styles of the franchise's characters.
