The Unexpected Death of GameInformer

GameInformer ends its 33-year run abruptly.

We here at RageFor are a little late to the party, but so was Game informer's shutdown.

After over 3 decades of publication worldwide, GameStop abruptly ended its 33-year print media streak, outlasting every other gaming-focused magazine in existence.

GameStop, The parent company in charge of the GameInformer brand, took to X (formerly Twitter) in a post on August 2nd, which read,

"

"

The announcement came just hours after GameInformer staff were told they would be laid off, leaving the last issue of Game Informer to be published in mid June, despite the July issue being worked on since before the June issue was published. The July issue may never see the light of day, as a result of the publication's unexpected shutdown.

As readers might expect, this left the nearly 200+ members of the staff reeling from the sudden lack of a job. Not only were staff laid off without warning, but the nearly 25 year-old website -and its hundreds of articles- were removed from the website; leaving the staff that wrote them scrambling to preserve their own legacy. This puts many writers -and editors'- portfolio in jeopardy, as they scramble to look for new jobs in this already volatile market.

This represents what many consider the final step towards a post-gaming print media world, as both magazine stands and even printed manuals in game boxes fade out of existence.
