Tekken 7: Thomas the Train DLC Confirmed After Leak

Not long ago, a credible source on twitter leaked an image showing the famous Thomas the Tank Engine as Tekken's next DLC character. Now, it's been confirmed by the game's producer and lead developer Katsuhiro Harada, but he wasn't too happy about it.

Harada responded to the leak, confirming (in all caps) that the reveal was slated for Evo 2018, and angrily blaming the security at the Tekken development offices or something.

Who is Thomas the Train?

Thomas the Tank Engine was the protagonist of the British television program Thomas & Friends. The show originally aired in 1984 on ITV, and would later go on to be broadcast on PBS Kids in the U.S, Canada and Mexico for nearly 30 years. The show follows the adventures of a bunch of anthropomorphic trains as they go about their business, and occasionally talk to each other.

Fun fact: The voice of Thomas the Train was performed by former Beatles member Ringo Starr, who would later be knighted Sir. Richard Starkley.

What this means for Tekken players

Those of us who play Tekken usually have to consider fighting other characters with two arms and two legs. The largely humanoid shaped characters have a series of bounds built into the character called "hitboxes", which allow the game to detect whether a limb or body part of a character effectively hits or blocks the hitboxes of another character. there are ten in total, corresponding to the limbs, torso and head of each character. Naturally, this raises questions about how Thomas will even be playable in the game, considering the character's whole body would be one big hitbox matching the rectangular shape of his body. So far, there is no word on how Thomas would even be implemented in the game.
