Road Drivers: Legacy Review (Android)

Sometimes I can't even with these games. Just when you think you've found a racing game that isn't a traffic dodging clone of a more popular title made of purchased asset packs and recycled Unity3D source code, you get companies like this shitting out near perfect clones filling up the Google Play store

Road Drivers: Legacy is named deliberately in a way that would cause people to confuse it with the popular EA title, Real Driving: Legacy, and trust me: this game is nowhere near as good. The strange thing is, as far as these games go, this game isn't terrible, but it isn't anything special, as far as they come.

Graphics

Gotta love how the screenshots for the game on Google Play deliberately mislead people into thinking the game looks better than it really does. These graphics are nowhere near the level the developers claim they are. Still, the presentation is pretty good, but when even that is a clone borrowed from other Unity games, it really isn't special.

Gameplay

It's a traffic dodging clone, no different than the other ninety zillion and a half clones out there. They're all literally built on the same code. This game is boring as all hell, just like all the others. You dodge traffic and the like, but no matter how high the supposed difficulty curve, it's basically the same in every mode. You dodge traffic, mostly by staying in the same lane. That's it.

The gameplay itself isn't even that bad. Most traffic-dodging games (because they're all basically the same anyway,) are pretty solid.

The loop of music that plays in the background makes me want to jump into on coming traffic during a monster truck rally. The same loop from the menu plays during the gameplay, and it won't shut the hell up!!

Controls

I don't even know why I'm covering this part. You can tilt the screen to steer. The game, by default, auto-accelerates, you steer the car, there's a break pedal... That's it. You can chose different configuration in the settings, like using buttons to steer instead of the accelerometer, but as usual, you won't find options for a gamepad. Other traffic dodging clones have it, but god forbid you might want to use a gaming peripheral to play a game, am I right?

Verdict

I've seen ROM hacks more original than this game. Yet another scheme to molest players with ads and micro transactions. The weird part is, as a clone of this type of game, it's not bad. The problem is, it's just mediocore.
