The Man From Earth Movie Review

The Man From Earth

Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Science Fiction 2007  87 mins.

Rated PG-13

Starring: David Lee Smith, Tony Todd, John Billingsley

A thought-provoking film with 100% dialog written by Jerome Bixby and directed by Richard Schenkman, starring David Lee Smith who plays the professor, John Oldman, who invites his students to gather in his small house for a fare-well conversation before he moves to another city.

Upon this gathering, he worriedly gives his students a question of whether there might be a possibility that a man from the upper Paleolithic could survive up until the present day.

The conversation becomes a deeply involved one which leads to a scientific, religious, philosophical and emotional one.

Smith calm and patient within the very involved discussion, puts thoughts of possibility of his age beyond that of age 35 and hints at himself being impossible years older.

Not getting to the point throughout this sort of repetitious discussion, causes great frustration and anguish that makes him such a compelling protagonist, that the mood becomes one of anger, accusations, high emotions, and a question of whom he might be.

Smith's accusations offend the group and from there, he feels he may have made a mistake of him inviting the group to the gathering. With great optimism and doubt this compelling film allows the viewer to draw their own conclusion.
